My Project:

Reflection:

Over this internship, I did not learn much about the medical field but the overall knowledge I gathered was immense. I learned about ranching, construction, biology, motor mechanics and that was only during working hours. It was not the internship I was looking for initially but I really enjoyed my time at the Wolf Creek Ranch. One of the largest projects our group of workers accomplished in the weeks we were there was building a solar power shed (middle picture) for the ranch so it does not have to really on its gas generators all the time. The rest of the time was used checking fence and moving cows and yacks from one pasture to another. Overall, I am still looking for an internship in the medical field, but this was an amazing experience and I am glad I was able to work with these beautiful animals in such a amazing part of the world!

Spring/Summer Update (07/1/20)

Why did you make the decision that you've made and what do you hope to learn from this upcoming experience?

Due to COVID-19 my internship with Lovelace Medical Center was canceled. Despite this Hurdle, I was able to procure a paid internship with Chama Valley Meat Co. For this internship, I will be designing a Trama Plan for the company in case of any incidents occur there.

What are your final thoughts before departing for your internship?

I am interested to see how it will satisfy my interest in the medical field.

What are you excited about? Are you nervous at all?

I am excited to be working with yacks and cattle during the internship and I am a little nervous because I only know two of the people I will be working with.

Are there any last details that you need to confirm?

I have everything worked out for the internship.

Winter Update (02/10/20)

Where are you in the internship confirmation process?

I have an internship confirmed with Lovelace Medical Center in Albuquerque, and a mentor Timothy Perez. I am going to be going on a clinical rotation which means I will be going around to different areas in the medical field to see everything under the sun in the hospital.

What have you done so far and what next steps are you planning on taking?

I will be doing researching to see what I have interest in seeing and diving deeper into those fields for my three weeks.

Fall Update (10/10/19)

What are your thoughts on doing an internship?

I want to do an internship some where in an aviation career, maybe in stockbroking

What fields are currently intriguing to you?

I am currently very intrigued in aviation, I am doing TARC (Team America Rocketry Challenge) which is a competitive rocketry competition, and I really enjoy economics and I like working with the stock market.

What are you looking forward to and what concerns do you have?

I look forward to getting to learn what jobs look like in both these fields, seeing what people actually do on a day to day basis.

What have you done already to work towards exploring your interests?

As I said I am doing TARC to explore rocketry, and i am just talking about the market with my father to explore economics.

What's next in your career exploration and/or internship search?

Explore what companies I can do internships with with and  see who could be potential mentors.

What is LINK?

The Leading Internships for New Knowledge (LINK) program is an integral piece of the Animas High School curriculum in Durango, Colorado, as it exemplifies our belief in the value of student-centered, personalized instruction that connects learning to the adult world.  LINK takes students beyond the classroom walls in order to clarify personal, college and career goals while teaching invaluable professional skills and life lessons. With support from the LINK Internship Coordinator, students find internships either locally or further afield that allow them to dive deeply into their individual passions, interests and potential career paths.  They are paired with LINK Mentors who generously share their time, energy and expertise.  While on their internships, AHS juniors make meaningful contributions to their host businesses and organizations while also completing individual LINK Projects.
